TYPHOON COBRA 1944
This Web Site has been established to describe the events of Typhoon Cobra which
resulted in the loss of three destroyers; the USS Spence (DD 512),the USS
Monaghan (DD 354),and the USS Hull (DD 350) on December 18, 1944, and to list
the names of the deceased, and surviving sailors who were on those ships, to be recorded on a memorial at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Marine Bombing Squadron Four Thirty-Three
VMB-433 operated the PBJ-1 "Mitchell" medium bomber in the Solomon
Islands and Bismarck Archipelago from June 1944 through the end of the
war. VMB-433 was one of only seven Marine squadrons to see combat
overseas with the PBJ-1.
